Halloween Series: Vampire

Hey there! I'm back today with another Halloween look for you guys, and this one is an old standby. Sort of a straight up vampire look that would suit a lot of different vampire costumes. Now I'm well aware that there are looks of different kinds of vampires. This look is a take on the aristocratic/gothic sexy vampire, that's been popularized from Stoker to Rice over the years. I'm a little surprised I haven't done one yet! A little note about the eye makeup: I'm using a lot of red in this look, which I think compliments the overall aesthetic.  It's Halloween, and I thoroughly encourage stepping out of you comfort zone! That being said, I know a lot of people shy about from red on the eyes. I can understand this, and think that you could sub some warm plum tones instead if you really want to.

So for this look I started with the eyes, which is crucial for when you're blending dark colors. I started out with a eyeshadow primer all over the eye and brow bone. Then I took a matte true red on a flat brush and really pack it on the lid, you want it a bright as possible. With the same color on a fluffy brush, you want to softly blend around the eye socket. this will make a really pretty transition for the black. In the outer corner of my eye I took a little bit of a burgundy shade a packed that on, for even more of a transition.

Then with a tapered crease brush I took a matte black eye shadow I started to blend upwards and out into a dramatic V. Then back down again into the socket. Then I went around the socket again with the red on the fluffy brush. Then back with the black, you want to keep this up until the blending and intensity is where you want it. With a smaller brush a took the black eye shadow under my eye a bit and blended it in. Then I blended out the edge with a matte white on a fluffy brush. I also took a bit of the white and put it in my inner corner.

Moving right along, I lined my upper and lower waterline with a black pencil liner. Then with a black gel liner on an angled brush I made a medium thick line across my eye, it went out a little the the end but it's not super winged out. You don't want too much just enough of a line to blend in the lashes. If you aren't wearing falsies, you might want more liner. Then I added a light coat of waterproof mascara on my top and bottom lashes. Then I added a pair a very defined lashes that taper out into the corner. Just use what you have, or what ever will compliment your costume.

Moving on to the face! I started by wiping away the fallout with a makeup wipe, this is super important. After that you can start on the foundation. If you're fair to medium skinned you can use a white face paint if you like. (I don't know if I'd recommend it for darker skin tones.) For me I'm fair enough (P.s the lightening always makes me about 2 shades paler) that I didn't think it was necessary. So I applied a foundation normally, and applied concealer under my eyes and over any blemishes. (Vampires don't get acne. XD) And then I used the same matte white from before on a bigger brush and used that as a highlight. I blended that into the high planes of my face, which add dimension as well as lightening my face up a bit more. I used a taupe shade to contour a little, I probably should have used more. Finally I topped it off with the teensiest amount of a red blusher. You have just feasted after all!

Alright for the lips I applied a medium blue toned red lipstick. Then comes the best part: the fake blood! So with a blood paste I sort of dabbed it around my mouth messily, there is really no rhyme or reason for blood application. Then I mixed some of my blood paste with water to make it runny, this is unnecessary if you're using blood gel or squirt blood. Then I put it to the corner of my mouth and just let it drip down.

Halloween Series: Super Quick & Easy Scar!

Want a super fast DIY Halloween costume? Give yourself a badass scar with your new best friend: Rigid Collodion aka scarring liquid. It's a a clear liquid that causes the skin around it to tense, creating a 3d scar like dent. A few things I should mention first though, this product can be dangerous if misused. Do not put this directly on your eye area, the skin there is far to delicate and if it got in your eye, it could probably blind you. Also, don't use this a bunch of times in the same spot, that could potentially actually scar you. But it's very easy to use, so no worries! :D I got mine at a local makeup supply store, but a Halloween or costume store is also likely to have this.

For this look you need two things, Rigid Collodion (duh), and a pink or red lip pencil. With your pencil lightly trace where you want the scar. (Make sure to use a very light hand if you're using red like I did.) I also recommend smoothing it out with your fingertip a little bit. Next apply your first layer of the scarring liquid. Blowing on it will make it go faster, you only need about 45 seconds between each layer. Squishing the skin around it in will help it scrunch more. You will need about ten coats for full effect but you can really start to see it after three. Afterward you can leave it as is, or color it if you choose. You can't see how deep it looks in these photos, in real life it looks really deep.

Halloween Series: Candy Corn Cutie!

Ohhhh yeeaahhh! First Halloween look of the season here on Spice Drop! I wanted something really festive and cute to start things out with. So I chose a Halloween classic for my inspiration, candy corn! Love it or hate it, candy corn is a Halloween Staple and would be a easy cute costume. I'm using mostly Sugarpill eyeshadows for this, use what ever you have but make sure it's matte!

So I started by applying a eyeshadow base all over my eye and  blending a white cream base all over my lids and brow bone. This'll make an even base for the eyeshadow as well as making the colors pop more. My eyebrows already have natural arch so that's where I'm putting the tip of my candy corn. If yours don't, use this time to figure out where you want the point to be. I also but a bit of the white underneath my eyes. With a flat brush and a matte yellow eyeshadow I placed the first layer of her candy corn all over my lids and out, to creat trapazoid shape. (If you have a big lid space you might want to section the layers off more) You want colors to be as bright as possible, so really pack the color on. The yellow was the easy part, as you up you're going to need it to make it a triangle shape and so you need to be careful where you place your color. To make a cleaner line you could use the tape method, but I thought that would look too harsh for this. Instead I took the edge of a paper as my guider. The next layer is orange, so I made a similar layer as the yellow but smaller. This layer also has my crease, so I had to bend the orange in with out getting it in the yellow. Don't sweat the colors mixing too much though, it happens on the candy itself! Then at the top goes the white, make sure it's very very white it needs to stand out. To clean and make the edge stand out more take a eyeshadow in the same tone as your skin (or a face powder) and cover whats left of the white base. I then applied a black gel eyeliner thinly along my lash line, and continued straight out a little ways. I filled in my eyebrows with a colored powder normally, if you want to create a faux pointed arch that'd be cool. I then applied a quick coat of black mascara then put on some flasies, but thats completely optional.

I applied some pretty standard foundation and concealer, nothing too interesting there. I then added some orange blush to warm up my complexion and continue the orange tone throughoLumut the look. For the lips I made a custom red-orange shade. And that's pretty much it!

Halloween Series: Forest Nymph

Well I'm back for the third installment of my Halloween series, and this week I'm doing a wood nymph look. Its very pretty, and very very easy. I'm using some fantastically long Sugarpill lashes for this look but use whatever length you're comfortable with!

Startled Nymph!

After applying BB cream and eye primer I took a peachy colored eyeshadow I used it all over my lids and brow bone. Then with a wet angled brush I took a medium green color and lined my lids with it. Take the same green and gently work it into your crease. Then take a medium brown and blend it just into the corner of the green. Apply a little black mascara, if you're not using lashes you're done! This is where I applied my fantastic lashes, and batted them dramatically lots.

Now taking bronzer I contoured lightly around the edges of my face and under my cheek bones. Then I added a little bit of a peachy flush right above the contour, and dusted highlight on top of that.

On to my foresty head thing. Using the sides of my liner brush for a straight edge, I took a brush with light brown eyeshadow down the side flipped it to the other side, and made a triangle. Then I filled in the triangle with my bronzer. After that I made the little vines with green eyeshadow and a liner brush and applied a green sequin with a tiny amount of eyelash glue. Then to finish off the look I applied a neutral pink lipgloss and called it good. However I think a green, blue, or brown lip could also look super cool!

Halloween Series: Cat Look

Hello pretty kitties! Today we have the next part in my halloween series, a cat look from yours truly.
I decided to be a rust colored cat with spots, but you can change up the color of the eyeshadow and lipstick to suit the color of your cat costume. I'll have recommendations for different colors below the instructions.

I started out with a light layer of my normal foundation, but then I blended a layer of cream bronzer around the edges of my face and down my neck to deepen my skin tone a little. Then to add depth back to my face I contoured a little under my cheeks with a powder bronzer.

Moving on to the eyes I started out by priming my lids up through the brow underneath my eyes and the surrounding area. To get my lid color I mixed a bronzy gold with a dark red orange to create my rust colored cat shade. I sort of out lined where I wanted the wing to be, and then filled in the lid. Then I cleaned up the shape with a nude colored shadow. Add black mascara, to you top lashes only. Now cats don't have eyebrows, however my eyebrows are SUPER blond so I filled them in a bit so it didn't look weird, but I imagine you normal people with eyebrows could probably get away with not doing them. ;D

Then taking black gel eyeliner on an angled brush I made a fairly thick wing then brought it in to the corner making the cat like dip in the inner corner. After that I took a white shadow pencil and lined my water line and just under connecting it to the corner of the liner in the inner corner. Then I outlined the the white with more black liner to complete the eye shape. Underneath I added more of the rust color (I used less of the bronzy gold though) and extended the cat eye shape.

The spots are totally optional, but I took a bronze cream and pretty much just added random spot to start out with. Then with a much smaller liner brush then I used before I took more gel liner and outlined the spots. I added a few small spot with just black to fill the space in a bit too. You could probably do the black with just pencil liner if you prefer. Then draw on your little whiskers.

I couldn't find a lipstick that matched perfectly, so I applied a sheer bronze lipstick and put a orangey gloss over it.

Tips for Different Colors:

Black Cat: I suggest using a shimmery grey or sliver, not black. That way it'll suit your costume but the liner will still be visible.

Tiger: Do stripes instead of spots. 

White Cat: Skip bronzer, just add a little contour and lots of highlight. Use white and or light pink eyeshadow.

Halloween Series: Cute Pumpkin Look!

Now after my last Halloween look (Wonder Woman, for those who missed it ;D) I had a poll asking what look I should do next, and it actually had a three way tie! So I just picked this one. The goal of these looks is to be fun and festive while being fairly easy and I think this one fits the bill.

   

I think I make a rather cute pumpkin! =)

As always I started out with a primer as always applied to my whole eye. Then taking a bright orange color, I put it all over my lid this is the main color so use the bright orange you have. Then I took and orangey gold and put a little in my inner corner for dimension. Then taking a dark matte brown I really deepened the crease and outer corner, you could also use black, but I like the way the brown transitions with the orange.

For my lower lash line, I took a bright green color and ran it almost all the way to my tear ducts, I left a little room where I placed a lighter green eyeshadow. Then on a whim I decided to deepen the outer corner with a light more dark brown. Now to make my pumpkin tendrils I took a small flat liner brush (I used E.L.F's studio small smudge brush) and dipped it into the bright green from before. Starting at the point of my outer corner I made little loops going toward my earlobes. I did three loops, mine are fairly similar but they don't have to be perfectly matched so don't sweat it. After that that I lined my upper lash line with black gel eyeliner put on a quick coat of mascara (top only!) and then applied my half lashes. (I know I use them a lot, but they're my favorite!)

After that I filled in my brows orange, this is optional. My hair has a bit of an orangey tone right now so I think it looks cute, but it might come off a little clownish. Then I took a orangey cream blush and dabbed it on the apples of my cheeks for some color.

Okay now on to the lips, I started out with applying a red orange lipstick. Now if you want you can stop there and thats fine, but for extra fun I added a coat of tacky lipgloss and then pressed pretty orange/gold glitter. This glitter also has a beautiful green shift that isn't showing up, but you can imagine!

Halloween Series: Easy Wonder Woman Look!

As Halloween draws closer I've decided to do a series of looks to go with popular costumes. Today I'm doing one of my favorite superheros, Wonder Woman. She's strong, smart, and to top it off she's a total babe. This look will go well with any wonder woman look. My brows and lips drew their inspiration from the cartoons and comics and the eye makeup is based on the colors of her costume. I just wish I had a black wig for this look!

I started out with an eye primer all over my lid, brows, and under eye. I then took a bright yellow color a pack it on to the center of my lid to my outer corner, avoiding the edge and crease. Then I took a white shadow pencil and I made a base for where I put the red, along the outer half of my crease and my outer corner. Then taking a bright red I packed it on top of the white area. You can fix the edges, but be careful not to blend the yellow and red shadow or it will turn in to a yellow red orange gradient (pretty but not what we're going for). On the outer edge blend the red color into a point, but keep it pretty defined, it shouldn't fade out. Then with a smudge brush I took a dark blue color and took it under the outer third of my eye meeting it up to the reds point (Don't blend!!) then I blended a little lighter blue in the center. 

Then I lined my lower water line with white. (The black you see isn't intended, its transfer but I actually sort of like the way it looks.) Then taking a angled liner brush and a black gel eyeliner I lined my lash line I matched the wing to the blue on the bottom and flicked it up a bit. I applied a light coat of black mascara to my top lashes only and then added little winged half lashes. (The lashes aren't strictly necessary but it really gives the eyes the desired shape.)

Now I wasn't able to get a black wig for this look, and I clearly don't have dark hair but I filled in my brows darker to go with the look. I using a black eyeshadow on a spoolie gently running it through the hairs. I suggest using a matte black that doesn't have the best pigmentation.

After that I applied a primer all over my face and put on foundation. Wonder woman might not get dark circles but I certainly do, so I applied concealer under my eyes being carful not to smudge my eyeshadow. 

I contoured under my cheekbones for a little more definition and added a tiny bit of a peachy pink blush to warm it up. Then I applied highlighter along my cheekbones, don't be afraid to use a little extra highlighter, you're a superhero. I'm in the shade so you can't it very well, but I'm wearing quite a bit.

And of course to finish off this look you need a bright true red. This really isn't optional, it just doesn't work with out the lips.
