Review: MAC Heroine + Ravishing Lipsticks

I'm sure you all understand how sometimes when shopping for makeup you go looking for one particular thing, and then wind up with something totally random as well? Well this happened to me the other day. I went into the MAC store to find a nice peach lipstick, because weirdly I didn't have any true peach shades. And then I saw it, a fantastic shade me eyes had never seen. Her name was Heroine; she was bright and purple, and I fell in love. I also tend to get dramatic when it comes to pretty makeup. But long story short I have two lipsticks from MAC and I though I'd do a quick review for y'all.

 

 Let's start with Ravishing, because that was what I came for in the first place. MAC describes Ravishing as a "clean bright peachy coral". I would call it a clean bright orangey-peach. I actually specifically bought this one because it doesn't really stray into the coral family which I have tones of.  It's a creamsheen formula, with is smooth, creamy, and slightly glossy on the lips. I personally find this formula a bit drying, but not enough so to be that big of a problem. I do recommend a bit of lip balm underneath however. It lasts about 2 hours on me before it needs a touch up on me, but I personally don't mind this. creamsheens just aren't the longest lasting finish from MAC.

Alright now the stowaway, Heroine. I'm in love with lipstick for a bunch of reasons, but let's start with the color. Heroine is a bright mid-tone warm purple. I really like that although it's a very warm purple, it doesn't turn pink once applied. It definitely still reads purple on the lips. It's a very bold color in the best way possible, and find that it brightens my whole face. Heroine is a supposedly a matte finish lipstick, but I'm not completely sure why. It has no shimmer sure, but the finish isn't that classic dry finish that matte lipsticks generally have. Particularly MAC matte lipsticks, which are notorious for being dry on the lips. I found this lipstick very comfortable to wear while having being very long lasting. This does stain a bit, but I doesn't bother me. This isn't a shade for the color shy, but I absolutely adore it and am super happy MAC made this permanent. (Also radiant orchid bonus points!)

Review: Jordana Twist & Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain

So I have a review for you guys today one of Jordana's relatively new products, the Twist & Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain. I got it in the shade Cranberry Crush. I picked this up at Walgreens for just few dollars, and as per usual with Jordana it turned out to be surprisingly great! Lets go check it out!

The product goes on glossy and smooth with quite a lot of pigmentation for this type of product! The color is a super pretty raspberry, that I think would look pretty on many different skintones. After the glossy finish fades, you're left with a cute matte stain. Yes this actually is a stain! Not just a tinted lip balm. In fact while this product goes on smooth and doesn't dry out my lips, I don't find it to be that moisturizing. A little goes a long way, but something I should mention, start in the center of your lips with this stuff, then move it out a little. Otherwise it can look a tad lip line-y. It doesn't have any taste, but it has a yummy fruit smell that reminds me of my Plum Korres Lip Butter.

Lets talk about packaging! It comes presharpened in a plastic twist up tube. The the tube and the cap feel pretty substantial, so I'm not overly concerned about it cracking (I'm lookin at you NYX Jumbo Pencils!) and the twist up works well. It doesn't stick or go up too fast, and yes it does allow you to twist back down. With 0.095 oz of product, it doesn't come with a lot, but considering the amount you need and price, it doesn't bother me.

Review: Sleek Pout Paints! Review and OCC Comparison

Hey there darlings! Sorry it's been awhile, my life has been crazy! (Mostly in good ways thankfully!) But that's not a very good excuse, now is it? Anyway today I'm reviewing a couple of of Sleek's Pout Paints, a much talked about dupe for OCC's famous lip tars. I'll review and compare them, as well as showing you some fun colors I've mixed together. This post is probably going to be pretty pic heavy!

So just some quick background info for those of you who don't know, Sleek Pout Paints are an intensely pigmented liquid lipsticks that are applied in small amounts with a lip brush or mixed with other colors create custom shades. Sound familiar? That's because these are a cheaper alternative to Obsessive-compulsive cosmetics Lip Tars. I've been a fan of OCC Lip Tars for years, however even with my pro discount they are considerably more expensive than Sleek's version. But how do they stack up?

The first shade I got is called cloud nine. It's a straight up cool white, to lighten other colors. I took this picture to show you the color, but I must admit it's very hard to work with. Part of that is the nature of the color lighter shades in any form of lipstick can tend to get chalky, and a pure white pigment is not really  meant to be used on its own. It is however very pigmented, and when I to mixed it with other colors it lightened them easily.

The other shade I got is called Peek-a-Bloo. It's a rich medium blue shade. It's not quite neutral it leans a little to the warm side, but not too noticeable. That shade was much easier to work with than the white overall. The consistency was better, and it was easier to form clean lines. Once I got over how weird the shade was it's actually very beautiful lipstick. 

Now onto the fun part! I mixed these two shades with some my OCC Lip Tars create different shades. (I own the black and red)

I made a really dark vampy plum to start out with, just for fun. I used two parts  red, to half a part black, and one part blue.

I was a little too goth for me so I made a really cute grape shade, using only a little more red then blue and a tiny bit of white.

I also wanted to experiment with lavender shades à la Lime Crime. This one was more blue than red and lots of white. I also mixed a little more blue in the center. 

And if weird purple shades don't  suit your, fancy you can also use these to create more normal colors. These kinds of products are great for reproducing lost lipstick shades that you miss. I made this super cute pink! 

Now I need is to get OCC's yellow shade and I'll have the primary colors as well as black and white. I should be able to create what ever shade I want at thay point. :D

Overall I do think OCC's Lip are higher quality than the Sleek Paint Pouts. However is price is more important to you, definitely give these a shot!

Review: Lime Crime Velvetine in Suedeberry

Hello lovely readers! Today I have a review Im pretty excited about, a Velvetine from Lime Crime. I've been wanting this since it came out last year, and I finally bit the (shipping) bullet and got one! It was hard to choose which one to get, but eventually decided on this one, Suedeberry. Interested? Keep going!

Let's start by just talking about this product, because it's pretty unique. It comes in a tube with a doe foot applicator like and applies like a gloss, but then once it dries it becomes a totally matte kiss proof lipstick. I've gotta say it lived up to its word! As you can see in the picture it goes on wet and workable, and then in about a minute it dries completely matte. Witchcraft! Probably not, but it seems pretty magical. I took this on several test drives, and it lasts pretty well. It lasted for three hours of drinking and talking with minimal wear, and it lasted through about four and a half hours of a party where I was dancing and talking a lot. As for being kiss proof, its almost completely prefect. While its still a bit wet (there is a tacky stage between wet and dry) some will transfer but once its wet you're set! That even rhymed!

Now let's discuss the color, because it's stunning! Its a near neon warm red, and almost radiates on me. It's a great summer color, and if you like warm orange leaning reds I'd definitely recommend this one. The other shade is called Red Velvet and is a deeper blue red, so if cooler or less bright is your scene skip this one and get its co-part.

It's packaging is crazy cute, with a frosted tube and adorable applicator. I'd expect nothing less from LC their packaging is always great. However something I'm not as crazy about is the price. These go for $16.99 USD which isn't..... terrible... I suppose.... but these are pretty small. At 3g a pop these has less product then a MAC Lipglass. I was a bit disappointed in that, but to be fair I think it makes up for it because you don't need lots per application, and you don't need to apply often.

Maybelline Color Vivid Review: Vibrant Mandarin

The Maybelline Color Vivids have been talked about a lot lately and I thought I'd check out what the hype was all about. Particularly because the shade I bought,  885 Vibrant Mandarin, was said to be a dupe for MAC's Sail Le Vie Lipstick from last years Hey Sailor! collection. I loved that lipstick, and was completely heartbroken when I lost it. So you guys know I had to check this out!

So lets start with packaging. It comes in a very shiny red semi-transparent tube, (easy to find in a purse!) and doesn't have any brand marking on the tube itself. If you flip it to the bottom it has a color coordinated sticker with the name and number of the lipstick. I personally think it looks and feels a little cheap, but that really not the point now is it. ;D It doesn't say how much is in the tube on the packaging, but for the record its .15 oz or 4.2 grams of lipstick.

Formula? This lipstick is pretty comfortable on the lips, though hardly 'creamy'. Maybelline talks about it having 'honey nectar' to add creaminess but I don't buy it. It wears pretty well, about four hours on me, but it will kiss off at any point in the wear. Thats a problem for me, and I wish it did dry a little more.

Now for color which is honestly the most important part. Its a bright orange-red (not just warm or orange leaning red) with a semi matte finish. Its bright, but a little on the sheer side. Though it builds quickly, and goes on smooth no weird patches. I don't have Sail Le Vie anymore, but the color does seem pretty similar. 

Yay or Nay? I'd go with Yay on this one. However I don't think I'd repurchase or buy more from this line because of how much they kiss off.
